I had just started getting into Modest Mouse’s album ‘Good News For People Who Love Bad News’. and loved the way guitars felt and how the songs felt uplifting but introspective at the same time. My brother just leant me his loop pedal and I made that intro part on it. The whole song then became based around that.

The main premise is the chorus ‘Reaching for the fault from afar’. Something I’ve learnt as I’ve gotten older is that we as humans will often project our insecurities onto other people. It’s very easy to judge someone else especially if you are feeling insecure about yourself. I’ve had relationships and friendships that were deeply emotionally connected and I noticed as things started fizzling out I’d catch myself nit-picking at things that wouldn’t have bothered me earlier on. It’s easy to analyse a situation and say all the things that are wrong with it rather than actually doing anything about it. The whole song is based on a very apathetic character that wants to tell the other person all their issues without wanting to work out a way to solve the problem. And realising that in doing this, they’ve
pushed the other person away.
