about

I wrote this song around the time I scrapped a lot of the earlier recordings. I was feeling overwhelmed with writers block and couldn’t seem to write anything that connected with me.

I feel like you can hear where I was at when I wrote it because it’s the same two chords throughout. That wasn’t a stylistic choice it was more the fact that I couldn’t think of anything better! But that simplicity sort of sums up the feeling of the song. Feeling numb, retreating inward rather than sharing yourself with others and feeling like you’re a burden.

I was in and out of depression from about 21 to 26 and would get into thought cycles that led me to believe that how I was feeling was just a normal way for my brain to behave. The lyric “The way that I could be, Led by misery” is summarising this period of my life.

lyrics

You came up
Inside our home
And everything you own
All of what I know
Its hard to ask
About those things
When I all I feel is numb
Always on my phone

So clearly
The way that I could be
Led by Misery
Stuck round for less
And hope for the best
Im not where I need
Changing by the sea
