My favourite movie growing up was “Dazed and Confused”. The whole final part of the movie is them having a party in a forest by a Moon Tower. I always loved the idea of this and when I was younger used to wish I grew up in Texas where it was based. I decided to write a song that was set in that town. It’s about a new relationship where the person is saying they’d go wherever the other person asked “Follow you into the dark”. The main line in the song “Go on ahead everyone’s gone and you’re on your own” is meant to represent a feeling of letting go of needing other peoples validation. It’s about being yourself without fear of judgement.

I was listening to The Walkmen when I wrote this especially their song “They’re winning”. I loved the sound of the open hi-hats going throughout and decided to write a drum part with a similar feel. I didn’t have a song at that point so I just wrote the rest of it to the drum part and it all came together in an evening when I was quite drunk!
